Dr. Pallavi Banerjee

WELCOME!

I am a sociologist of families, migration, labour, gender, and intersectionality.  I am currently an Associate Professor of Sociology and a Research Excellence Chair in the Sociology Department at the University of Calgary. My pronouns are she/her in support of all gender-inclusive pronouns.

I received my Ph.D. in Sociology at the University of Illinois at Chicago in December of 2012. Previously, I was a postdoctoral fellow at the Sociology Department at Vanderbilt University from 2013 until  2015.

My research interests lie at the intersections of the sociology of families, migration, labor, gender, transnationalism, the Global South, and critical feminist theories. I am a committed Public Sociologist.

You can reach me by email at pallavi dot banerjee at ucalgary dot ca.

I live in Calgary with my partner Dr. Pratim Sengupta,  Professor of Learning Sciences at the University of Calgary, and our little cat child Phantom Chulbul Pandey or Chulee
